Dữ dội và dịu êm
Ồn ào và lặng lẽ
Sông không hiểu nổi mình
Sóng tìm ra tận bể
Ôi con sóng ngày xưa
Và ngày sau vẫn thế
Nỗi khát vọng tình yêu
Bồi hồi trong ngực trẻ
Trước muôn trùng sóng bể
Em nghĩ về anh, em
Em nghĩ về biển lớn
Từ nơi nào sóng lên?
Sóng bắt đầu từ gió
Gió bắt đầu từ đâu?
Em cũng không biết nữa
Khi nào ta yêu nhau
Con sóng dưới lòng sâu
Con sóng trên mặt nước
Ôi con sóng nhớ bờ
Ngày đêm không ngủ được
Lòng em nhớ đến anh
Cả trong mơ còn thức
Dẫu xuôi về phương bắc
Dẫu ngược về phương nam
Nơi nào em cũng nghĩ
Hướng về anh - một phương
Ở ngoài kia đại dương
Trăm nghìn con sóng đó
Con nào chẳng tới bờ
Dù muôn vời cách trở
Cuộc đời tuy dài thế
Năm tháng vẫn đi qua
Như biển kia dẫu rộng
Mây vẫn bay về xa
Làm sao được tan ra
Thành trăm con sóng nhỏ
Giữa biển lớn tình yêu
Để ngàn năm còn vỗ.

Impetuous energy and gentle calm
Rumbling roar and spreading hush
The river cannot hold its waves
They seek the open sea
Oh waves of yester year
Of tomorrow and forever
Longing and thirst of love
Swelling in the young heart !
Watching the thousands of the waves
Dear one I think of you and me
My thoughts run wild
Where do the wave begin ?
Waves are born of the wind
And the wind, where from does it come ?
This I cannot tell
Nor where and when did our love begin.
The waves swell
Below the restless waters
Waves that never forget the banks
Unsleeping day and night.
My heart remembers you, beloved
And never sleep even in dreams.
Downstream Northwards
Upstream South
Every way my thoughts
Flow to you – a single current.
Out there in the wide reaches
Are a hundred thousand other waves,
And is there ever one which never finds the shore
Though obstacles be many.
Life is long
Through all our months and years
Wide as the sea
Under the passing clouds
Oh to find a way to break
In hundreds of little waves
Be lost in the sea of love
And lap and lap forever on the shore.
